Search engine
The ELIISA search engine has been designed to meet the specific needs of legal research. It offers a fast and efficient access to legal material by combining power Boolean syntax with natural language processing of queries. ELIISA is used in CanLII as well as in other LexUM projects.
Systems for management and publishing of legal information
The PULP and LexEDO platforms have been designed by LexUM to serve the management and publication of large volumes of legal information. In CanLII, in-house solutions have been put in place to allow the processing and publication of several thousands of documents weekly.
Knowledge management systems
LexUM offers various solutions to help organizations create and manage efficiently their internal informational assets and to integrate them with other complementary online resources. The LexActo platform serves the creation, consolidation and management of annotated legal texts.
Tools for automation of legal publishing activities
LexUM has developed computer programs to assists various publishing activities in an automated way. Such tools are used for document conversion (Polyglotte), automated metadata extraction, identification of entities in texts and de-identification (NOME).

LexUM has contributed to the establishment of documentary standards and best practices in order to streamline the management and circulation of legal material in electronic form. LexUM is one of the architects and champions of the Guide for the uniform preparation of judgments, the Neutral citation standard for case law and the Model policy for access to court records.
Studying the issues related to the use of technology in the legal field
In various studies and consulting mandates, LexUM analyses the issues and impacts of the use of IT in law. LexUM coordinates a project aiming at evaluating the impact of free access to law initiatives on lawyers’ competence.
