Text of Resolution 1999/1 adopted by CALL/ACBD
on June 2nd, 1999 in Banff, AB
1999/1
WHEREAS citation is a necessary means of identifying legal
documentation and increasing its accessibility; and,
TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION the great number of citations used
in the field of law; and,
WHEREAS CALL/ACBD constantly seeks to improve access to legal
information; and,
RECALLING the results and follow up of the "Official Vision"
summit held in 1997; and,
WHEREAS user-friendliness and permanence will result from a
neutral citation format for case law; and,
GIVIN the works of the Canadian Committee on Citation;
BE IT RESOLVED that CALL/ACBD
APPROVE the principle of a neutral citation for Canadian
case law;
AND
ENCOURAGE the adoption, spread and use of the standard by
the appropriate bodies.
